Little Nightmares is an action-adventure game that's designed to put players in an immersive environment. It combines aspects of both puzzle games and platforming titles to present a rather unique style of gameplay that's all its own.

Much of the game's charm is found in its equally unique plot. Little Nightmares stars a small female protagonist named Six, who awakens from a dream that depicted a geisha. She has nothing more than a lighter and has to sneak through a location known as the Maw. Essentially, it's an underwater vessel that's designed for individuals who are much larger than her.

Over time, players are made privy to more and more of the plot's details. At first, however, they're not going to know where they are or even how certain game mechanics work. This should keep even experienced players guessing, which helps to provide a good challenge without making the game too frustrating.

While it's published by a major development studio, Little Nightmares has the feel of some of the more popular indie games. The scenario is somewhat mysterious and the gameplay is innovative, which certainly makes it seem as though the team that made it was taking a closer look at several titles in this genre.

That's given it a distinctly different look from most AAA releases as well. Nevertheless, it has the polish of major titles so you won't be likely to run into any major issues while you explore the game's massive environments.

While it might not be a true open-world game, Little Nightmares has more than enough areas to explore that it can keep even jaded gamers interested.
